USBA Rookie Report
🏆 USBA Rookie of the Year Race Heating Up
The USBA Rookie of the Year race is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive award battles of the season, with five rookies separating themselves from the pack. At the moment, the Chicago Bulls’ Caleb Wilson sits at the top of the leaderboard, but the numbers show there is plenty of room for the race to change.
🥇 Caleb Wilson — Chicago Bulls
16.5 PPG | 8.5 RPG | 1.1 APG | 1.0 SPG | 2.4 BPG
Wilson currently holds the No. 1 spot, and it’s easy to see why. The Bulls big man is making an impact on both ends of the floor, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while leading all five finalists with an impressive 2.4 blocks per game. His combination of athleticism, interior scoring and defense has made him one of the most complete rookies in the league.
🥈 Darius Acuff Jr. — Sacramento Kings
20.6 PPG | 2.6 RPG | 3.0 APG | 1.4 SPG
Acuff Jr. may be sitting second in the race, but he owns the highest scoring average among the current leaders. His 20.6 points per game and 3.0 assists demonstrate his ability to create offense, while 1.4 steals per game add another dimension to his game. If Acuff continues producing at this rate, Wilson will have plenty of pressure behind him.
🥉 Mikel Brown Jr. — Brooklyn Nets
18.5 PPG | 2.0 RPG | 4.0 APG | 0.0 SPG | 0.5 BPG
Brown Jr. brings a different skill set to the race. His 4.0 assists per game lead the group, showing that he’s not simply looking to score. At 18.5 points per game, Brown is also putting up serious offensive numbers. A few big performances could quickly push him toward the top of the leaderboard.
4️⃣ Cameron Boozer — Memphis Grizzlies
16.7 PPG | 5.0 RPG | 1.3 APG | 1.3 SPG
Boozer is quietly sitting right in the middle of the race. His 16.7 points per game are slightly ahead of Wilson, while his 1.3 steals demonstrate his defensive activity. He’s currently fourth, but the margin between the top four is small enough that a strong stretch could completely reshape the standings.
5️⃣ Darryn Peterson — Utah Jazz
13.5 PPG | 2.8 RPG | 4.0 APG | 1.5 SPG | 0.3 BPG
Peterson rounds out the current top five. His scoring numbers trail the other contenders, but his 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game show his ability to contribute in other areas. He’s also tied with Brown Jr. for the best assist mark in the group, making him a dangerous candidate if his scoring begins to rise.
🔥 The Race Is Wide Open
Wilson currently has the advantage because of his all-around production and elite rim protection, but Acuff Jr. is putting up the most points, while Brown Jr. and Peterson are creating offense and making plays for others. Boozer remains firmly in the mix as well.
With the season still developing, one hot month could completely change the Rookie of the Year leaderboard. For now, the Bulls’ Caleb Wilson has the crown—but four rookies are chasing him.
